Abstract: This study investigates the impact of self-directed learning on adult learners, examining how self-motivated educational approaches enhance learning outcomes. The objectives were to assess the effectiveness of self-directed learning in promoting lifelong learning, to identify key factors that contribute to successful self-directed learning, and to evaluate the challenges faced by adult learners in self-directed learning environments. A survey research design was utilized to gather data from participants engaged in self-directed learning activities, allowing for comprehensive insights into their experiences. A sample size of 300 adult learners was selected for robust analysis. The purposive sampling technique was used to target individuals actively participating in self-directed learning. The case study was conducted in Enugu, Nigeria, where self-directed learning is gaining popularity. Findings indicated that self-directed learning significantly enhanced learners' autonomy, motivation, and academic performance. However, challenges such as lack of guidance and limited access to resources were identified. The study recommended providing more support and resources for self-directed learners and developing frameworks to guide self-directed learning practices.
